FAQ
Why is my algae turning dark green?
Dark green coloration in your microalgae is a sign of healthy growth! As the algae photosynthesize, they will naturally change color from a pale green to a deeper, rich emerald shade. This is a normal part of the growth process and nothing to be concerned about. It's important to note that, even as the algae become darker in color, you should still be able to see bubbles at the surface, which is an indication of oxygen production. So, don't worry if your algae turns dark green, it's just a sign that your photobioreactor is working as it should.
What do I do if bubbles stop?
If you notice that the bubbles in your photobioreactor have stopped, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
First, carefully empty the liquid In a container
If there are still no bubbles, transfer the algae to a sterile, covered container and leave the unit unplugged for an hour.
For later stage algae (dark opaque green): As the algae grows it can cling to the stone valve and interrupt regular function. If you notice the bubbles have stopped, Clean the stone with fresh water and cloth.
If none of these steps work, please contact customer support with your order number for further assistance.
My algae arrived, but it is half full (or empty depending on how your day is going), did some of it leak out? Why is the solution thick?
Thank you for purchasing our liquid micro-algae tower! We apologize if the bottle appears to be less than full upon arrival. However, we fill our algae bottles about half full to ensure that there is enough space for the microalgae to consume CO2 and release oxygen, similar to how plants need space to breathe. The solution may also appear thick due to the organic agent we use to prolong the shipping life of the algae.
In the rare case that there is visible leakage, please contact us and we would be happy to send a replacement. We value your satisfaction and will do our best to resolve any issues you may have with your purchase.
How often do I change my algae?
The recommended frequency for changing the algae in your micro-algae tower is every 30-60 days. This is because the microalgae will have consumed all the available nutrients and will begin to die off after that period. To ensure that your tower is always functioning at its best, we recommend signing up for our subscription service, where we will send you fresh algae every month. Alternatively, you can also reorder new algae from our website.
Furthermore, the used algae can be recycled, it can be an excellent fertilizer for your garden, houseplants, or compost pile. So, not only you will be improving the air quality inside your home, but also you will be creating a sustainable cycle of recycling and reusing resources.
Does the Tower need direct sunlight?
The Tower does not require direct sunlight to function effectively. It has a built-in light system that simulates sunlight and provides the microalgae with the energy they need to photosynthesize, remove CO2 and produce oxygen. This makes it a great option for use in indoor spaces such as an office or a room without natural light.
However, it is worth noting that extra light can be beneficial for the tower's performance. The more light the tower receives, the faster the microalgae will grow and the more CO2 they will be able to remove. If you place the tower in an area with ample natural light, you may want to consider reducing the refill timeline from 60 days to 30 days. This way you will ensure that the microalgae are continuously removing CO2 and producing oxygen.
Please keep in mind that the tower also needs to be placed in a room with moderate temperature and humidity to ensure the microalgae's health and wellbeing.
Is evaporation normal?
Yes, it is normal for evaporation to occur over time. As the microalgae photosynthesize, they consume water, and this can cause the liquid level in the tower to decrease. This is nothing to worry about, and you can easily fix it by adding distilled water to the tower between refills. However, if you don't want to add water, it's also fine to leave it as is, the microalgae will still be able to photosynthesize and produce oxygen. It's important to keep in mind that the microalgae need a specific pH level and salinity to survive so it's best to use distilled water to avoid any changes in those parameters.
Please note that it's also important to monitor the water level and add distilled water as needed to ensure that the microalgae always have enough water to continue their photosynthesis process.
Micro-algae towers can have a calming effect, much like traditional houseplants, they can help reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
